Member Groups
All of the groups listed below operate under a Memorandum of Understanding
(MOU) with the Virginia Department of Emergency Management . For additional
information on becoming a member or VASARCO, please go to
Membership Procedures.
Canine

Blue and Gray Search and Rescue Dogs
Harrisonburg, VA: Blue and Gray is a professional
volunteer wilderness Search and Rescue organization
serving the Mid-Atlantic region. Blue and Gray is a
member of the Virginia Search and Rescue Council and
operates as a state resource under an MOU with the
Virginia Department of Emergency Management.

DOGS-East Search and Rescue
Falls Church, VA: DOGS-East is a professional
volunteer wilderness Search and Rescue organization
serving the Mid-Atlantic region and is an active member
of the Virginia SAR Council.

Greater Atlantic Rescue Dogs
Virginia Beach, VA: An all-volunteer search and
rescue organization, Greater Atlantic Rescue Dogs (GARD)
uses specially trained dogs to search for and find lost
or missing people in wilderness, rural or disaster
environments. GARD uses air scent dogs that will detect
any human scent in a given area. They are a member of
the Virginia Search and Rescue Council and operate as a
state resource with the Virginia Department of Emergency
Management.

Hanover Hounds K-9 SAR
Hanover County, VA:
Hanover Hounds provides the citizens of Hanover County
and the Commonwealth of Virginia with highly trained
search and rescue personnel along with their K-9's, to
help locate the lost and missing in our community. These
services are available to law enforcement and Fire/EMS
when needed.

K9 Alert Search and Rescue Dogs, Inc.
Powhatan, VA: Based in the Richmond area, K-9
Alert Search and Rescue Dogs, Inc is a member of the
Virginia Search and Rescue Council and operates as a
state resource under a MOU with the Virginia Department
of Emergency Management.

Mid-Atlantic D.O.G.S.
Rockville, MD: Mid-Atlantic D.O.G.S. (MA/D) has
dog/handler teams located in various geographic
locations throughout the states of Maryland and
Virginia. MA/D strives to provide quick response for
search assistance in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia,
West Virginia and the District of Columbia. The unit is
also available to respond to more distant locations.

Virginia Recovery Canines,
Inc.
Chesapeake, VA:
Virginia Recovery Canines (VRK9) is an all volunteer
search and rescue organization that uses specially
trained dogs in the detection of human remains working
directly with law enforcement, fire and rescue
agencies. VRK9 members have experience in and have
responded to the following types of cases:
Homicide, Suicide, Arson, Lost person searches, Cold
cases, Evidence searches, Natural disasters, Acts of
terrorism etc. We are a professional group of handlers
and hold discretion and confidentiality in the highest
regard.

Virginia Search and Rescue Dog Association
Bristow, VA: The Virginia Search and Rescue Dog
Association (VSRDA) is the Southeast's oldest air
scenting wilderness search dog unit. VSRDA is available
24 hours a day, 7 days a week at no charge to the
requesting agency. VSRDA is a highly skilled volunteer
canine search and rescue unit that utilizes specially
trained dogs to locate missing persons in wilderness,
disaster, human remains and water search and
rescue/recovery missions.

Amherst County Search & Rescue
Amherst
County, VA: Amherst County Search and Rescue (ACSAR) is
a professional volunteer organization providing
Wilderness Search and Rescue responders and Search
Management personnel to support law enforcement
organizations and the Virginia Department of
Emergency Management in the search for lost or
missing persons, overdue aircraft, and other task as
requested. Members respond throughout Virginia and
areas outside of the Commonwealth as needed.

Appalachian Professional
Tracking Group
Appalachian
Professional Tracking Group (APTG) provides
professional, trained and certified trackers in the
Mid-Atlantic region to support search and rescue and
other law enforcement applications. APTG will
achieve this mission through training and tracking
application approved by Joel Hardin Professional
Tracking Services (JHPTS).

Appalachian Search and Rescue Conference (ASRC)
Mid-Atlantic Region:
The ASRC consists of eleven groups dedicated to
training to highest standards in Wilderness Search
and Rescue.

Angel Search
and Rescue
Pittsylvania County, VA:
Angel Search and
Rescue provides trained ground searchers and command
organization for search and rescue operations or
natural/manmade disasters in Pittsylvania County and
surrounding areas. Angel SAR will also provide
assistance with communications and provide
supplemental emergency medical support as requested.
A secondary mission of Angel Search and Rescue is to
provide educational programs to the general public
in order to decrease the number of searches in the
area serviced by Angel Search and Rescue.

Black Diamond
Search and Rescue Council
Southwest VA:
The Mission of Black Diamond
Search and Rescue Council is to provide wilderness
search and rescue, resource management, training,
and response coordination to the communities of
Southwestern Virginia including the counties of
Bland, Buchanan, Dickenson, Lee, Russell, Scott,
Smyth, Tazewell, Washington, Wise, and the City of
Norton.

Blue Ridge Mountain Rescue Group
Charlottesville, VA: The Blue Ridge Mountain
Rescue Group (BRMRG) is a member of the Appalachian
Search and Rescue Conference (ASRC), an emergency
resource that manages and assists in the search and
rescue of lost people and aircraft throughout
Virginia and its bordering states.

Commonwealth Search & Rescue
Daleville, VA: CSAR is a state resource and
member organization of the Virginia Search and
Rescue Council, an advisory group to the Department
of Emergency Management, in Richmond. When called
upon, they provide communication support, equine
teams and trained ground searchers and field team
signcutters as the situation requires.

Piedmont Search & Rescue
Midlothian, VA: Based in the Greater Richmond
Virginia area, the Piedmont Search and Rescue (PSAR)
group is dedicated to saving lives in the outdoors
through prevention programs, public education, and
mission response.

Rockingham-Augusta
Search & Rescue
Bridgewater, VA: Providing ground
search and rescue for the Shenandoah Valley,
Commonwealth of Virginia, and surrounding states
since 1984. We operate in the field, and in the
incident command post focusing on above ground
search and below ground rescue.

Tracking Institute (SARTI)
Virginia: SARTI is a national organization
based in Virginia, whose mission is to preserve the
art and skills of tracking and provide trained
visual mantracking resources for lost or missing
persons.

Shenandoah Mountain Rescue Group (857)
Vienna, VA: The Shenandoah Mountain Rescue
Group (SMRG) is a professional volunteer wilderness
search and rescue organization established to
provide assistance to those who become lost or
injured in the outdoors.

Southwest Virginia Mountain Rescue Group
Blacksburg, VA: The Southwest Virginia
Mountain Rescue Group (SWVAMRG) is a wilderness
search and rescue organization that provides
professional trained search management and field
personnel for missions in Virginia as well as the
mid Atlantic region. Services include all-weather
search and rescue of missing persons and downed
aircraft, complete search and rescue management,
technical and semi-technical evacuations, and safety
and survival education.

Tidewater Search & Rescue
Hampton, VA: Tidewater Search and Rescue
(TSAR) is a non-profit volunteer organization based
in Norfolk Virginia. We provide incident command,
staff and ground search resources for lost person
searches in both wilderness and urban settings and
downed aircraft throughout Virginia, Maryland,
Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Our members are
trained in technical and semi-technical rescue,
search tactics/techniques and land navigation to
accomplish this mission.

TROT-SAR
Mounted Team
Mid-Atlantic Region: TROTSAR Mounted Team is
a first responder resource that serves government
public safety organizations in Maryland, Virginia,
West Virginia, Delaware and Pennsylvania. The
TROTSAR Mounted Search & Rescue Team Inc. is devoted
to working for various federal, state and local
governments, during incidents of lost and missing
persons.

Virginia Department of Emergency Management
The Virginia Department of Emergency Management (VDEM) is a
state agency and member of the Virginia SAR Council. VDEM works
closely with local government emergency managers, other state
agencies, voluntary organizations and federal agencies to ensure
a comprehensive, efficient and effective response to emergencies
and disasters throughout Virginia.

Virginia Sheriffs' Association
Richmond, VA: The Virginia Sheriffs’ Association (VSA)
gives a voice to Virginia sheriffs and deputies. Working on many
levels and in cooperation with the various segments of the
criminal justice system and state government, VSA guarantees
unfailing representation for sheriffs and deputies throughout
the Commonwealth of Virginia.
